If you want to experience the peace and joy that comes from living a life directed by God’s love, you have come to the right place. Our Christian Science Society is one of the many world-wide branches of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.
We are located at:
296 West Main Street
Bay Shore, New York 11706
Christian Science is based on the teachings of Jesus. It is a Christian religion that follows the inspired word of the Bible, along with the textbook Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy. Science and Health has its sole foundation in the Bible, and elucidates the timeless principles and guidelines found there. These two books show how God’s care and goodness can be felt in everyday life, in practical ways.
Every Sunday we host a one-hour service beginning at 10:00 a.m. during which a Bible Lesson presenting a specific subject is read by a First and Second Reader.
We offer Sunday School for children and young people up to the age of 20. Sunday School pupils learn fundamental truths from the Bible, including the Ten Commandments, the Lord’s Prayer,
and Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount.
WEDNESDAY TESTIMONY MEETINGS:
At these meetings you will hear a short topical reading
from the Bible and Science and Health. This is followed by attendees individually sharing thanks for the ways that learning about God has given their lives more purpose and peace.
If you're interested in learning more about Christian Science,
a Reading Room is a good place to start.
On Thursdays and Saturdays, from 10:00 a.m. to
1:00 p.m., our church edifice doubles as a Reading Room. Open to the public, Reading Rooms are a peaceful place for everyone to come in and read, pray and take a few quiet moments to recharge.
In our Reading Room, you will be able to purchase or borrow the Holy Bible, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, and various other Christian Science literature.
You can find a nearby Christian Science Reading Room
via a quick Internet search.
And when you're in the area you are always invited to
stop by and visit us at ours.
Our one-hour Sunday worship service is held at 10:00 a.m. and is open to everyone. At this service you will hear a Bible Lesson read by two lay readers. Each week the Bible Lesson explores a specific topic which is relatable and helpful in addressing solutions for everyday needs. You are cordially invited to join us.
We also offer Sunday School for children and young people up to the age of 20. Sunday School pupils learn fundamental truths from the Bible, including the Ten Commandments, the Lord’s Prayer, and Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. And they learn how they can use these truths in their daily lives. Sunday School convenes at the same time as the church service.
This is the Bible Lesson subject for the week ending on Sunday, August 25th
Here is a Bible passage from this Lesson:
"Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."
[Philippians 4:8 King James Bible]
Wednesday testimony meetings are held at 4:30 p.m. every Wednesday afternoon. Please feel free to come and hear how practical Christianity is being lived today.
Our Reading Room is open on Thursdays and Saturdays,
between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
Reading Rooms provide a peaceful place to read, reflect and pray. The Holy Bible, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, The Christian Science Monitor and other Christian Science literature are available for you to peruse or purchase.
Brown Bag Lunch and Video Lecture - 12:00 p.m. (noon) - Bring your brown bag lunch and join us as we watch a videotaped Christian Science lecture. There will be good food for thought. All are welcome.
Our next featured Christian Science video lecture will be on: Thursday, September 5th at 12:00 noon.
The featured speaker will be Heloisa Gelber Rivas, C.S.B. a Christian Science Practitioner and Teacher.
Heloisa's topic will be: "Stranger, You Are the Guest of God". In this talk we will hear how home is the consciousness of God's universal goodness. Knowing that each of us is "the guest of God", we can experience the concrete expression of home wherever we are. This has profound implications for the world and for ourselves.
Mark your calendars for noon on Thursday, September 5th for what will be a thoughtful and prayer-inspiring lecture. If you know someone who might like to have a better understanding of what it means to live in the peace of God's love, why not invite them to come along.
We look forward to welcoming you!
